CFR's Heisman Top Five: Week Four

  1. Troy Smith, Ohio State
  2. Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
  3. Mike Hart, Michigan
  4. Garrett Wolfe, Northern Illinois
  5. Isaiah Stanbeck, Washington

It's early.

Smith was completely average until he made that amazing touchdown pass on the run to shock Penn State.  The Buckeyes never looked back after that.

Peterson was fairly quiet but he's done plenty already to stay near the top here.

Michigan's defense is the real story with that team this year, but Hart's healthy and where he goes, so also goes the Wolverine offense.

Wolfe is simply having one of those amazingly productive early seasons, and his 100 yard rushing and receiving effort against Ohio State won't easily be forgotten.

Stanbeck rallied the Huskies to a win against UCLA and they are now... 3-1!

Isaiah Stanbeck lollllll? You mean 1-10 in 2005 Isaiah Stanbeck? I don't think drunks at a bar would even mention that name let alone even know who he is.

C'mon bro. At least give an o-lineman props in the #5 slot if ur gunna just throw Stanbeck's name up there lolll.

You need to check out the performance being put on in Berkeley by Desean Jackson. Thus far he has been the best receiver in the nation and perhaps the most explosive player in the NCAA. Some props should also be given to Daymeion Hughes who already has 5 picks, 2 returned for TD's. That doesn't even include other incredible PD's he has made thus far.

I'm glad you don't have Brady Quinn up there. I can't believe the TV pundits are so willing to throw his name back into the race because his team's defense (working in perfect tandem with MSU's ineptitude) created some late turnovers and won the game.

For any Quinn backers out there, please explain why that game should put Quinn back in Heisman contention. And I mean that seriously, please do. I'm wondering if I missed something.

Look at the rest of the ND schedule until USC. Then take a look at tOSU's schedule. Quinn could put up ungodly numbers from now until then, while Troy Smith could have a tough time competing in the statistical department with games at Iowa, Mich St, and Michigan. Just something to think about. I think Quinn makes a great push in the next few weeks, and will be in the Top 3 come December.

Adam,

Thanks for the response. But I think your response goes more to why he WILL be in the top 3, not why he SHOULD be in the top 3. Any idea why he SHOULD be back on the list, especially as a direct result of the MSU game, as many of the TV pundits have said?

You should not be able to win the Heisman if you lay a huge turd in a blowout loss in arguably your biggest game of the season.

Quaker,

My sentiments exactly.
