Playoffs - Now What?
Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 12:25PM Bernie Machen's adventures came to a halt this week, but that's not exactly the end of the road for him.
Although his playoff proposal was voted down unanimously, word came out that the SEC would try to work within the BCS to make things more amenable for the conference.
I'm not so sure this is a good thing. Auburn 2004 is their Alamo, but it's not like other conferences haven't been squeezed out of the BCS title game before. As it is, no other conference enjoys the prestige of "if an SEC team goes undefeated, it should be in the title game" talk. The league is already sitting pretty, and I hope any efforts of theirs are directed out of fairness towards all and not pure selfishness or bitterness.

Slive sounds like he's at least willing to consider a "plus-one" arrangement down the road, while the Pac-10 presidents just came out of their summer meeting with a forceful statement opposing any sort of college football playoff, including the "plus-one".
